At WAVE we want everyone to take part, regardless of background or barriers because we believe engaging in sport can transform your life. All our volunteers are passionate about adventure and enjoy introducing people to healthy outdoor activities. They get a kick out of seeing others forget about their problems as they become totally engaged in an activity, such as rock climbing or kayaking. And they all firmly believe that actively taking part can improve your life in many ways.
Meet the team…
Graham – Founder
This year, after 18 years of running WAVE on a voluntary basis, I have realised my dream of being able to work for WAVE full time. I have enjoyed watching 1000’s of people of all ages and backgrounds experience the excitement and thrills to be gained through taking part in outdoor activities. I am incredibly proud & humbled to see the difference WAVE makes in people’s lives.
Passionate about living life to the full and am a lover of the outdoors myself, since being introduced to walking and water sports through my father and through school trips just a few years ago :). I absolutely love being involved, along with our superb staff, coaches & volunteers, in giving as many people as possible opportunities to take part in adventurous activities through WAVE Adventure.”
Cathy Gale – Trustee
I joined Wave Adventure around 12 months ago after looking for activities that would support my children who suffer from anxiety as a result of having Autism. My sons have taken part in rock climbing and gorge walking on a regular basis and have grown in confidence.
I was so impressed with Grahams high levels of teaching and also his patience I became a volunteer.
Being a carer for my children is very stressful and volunteering for Wave Adventure has given me a place to go to gain new skills, confidence and channel the anxiety and make new friends.”
Colin Woolford (Northcol Adventure) Coach
is proud to have been involved with WAVE since 2012.
An outdoors professional, Colin has an extensive climbing, mountain walking and outdoor pursuits background. Found mostly dangling participants from bits of rope in quarries Colin typically introduces people to climbing, navigation and walking the hills and mountains of the north west. He cooks a good veggie pasta meal and makes porridge to order.
